Haslem played for the Gators teams from 1998 to 2002 at the University of Florida in Gainesville, Florida, when he received an athletic scholarship.

Haslem averaged 13.7 points and 6.7 rebounds per game while playing for Florida. He was selected for the coaches’ all-Southeastern Conference (SEC) team four times: in 1999 and 2000, as a member of the third team, and in 2001 and 2002, as a member of the first team.

Haslem joined his local team, the Miami Heat, on August 6, 2003. He participated in the Rookie Challenge over All-Star weekend, was named to the NBA All-Rookie Second Team, and assisted the Heat in making it to the Eastern Conference Semifinals as a rookie.

In August 2005, Haslem re-signed with the Heat. He assisted the Heat in winning their first NBA Championship in June 2006 when they defeated the Dallas Mavericks 4-2 in the NBA Finals. In the decisive sixth game, Haslem finished with 17 points and 10 rebounds.

Haslem committed to a five-year, $20 million contract with the Heat in July 2010. His salary under the pact was about $14 million less than what he would have earned had he accepted the Dallas Mavericks or Denver Nuggets’ more alluring offers. LeBron James and Chris Bosh joined Dwyane Wade on the Heat’s new-look lineup as he proceeded.
