Udonis Johneal Haslem was born on June 9, 1980, in Miami, Florida, USA to John, and Debra Haslem. His father had played for Stetson Hatters during his college days. Growing up, Udonis attended Wolfson High School and later, Miami Senior High School where he played college basketball.

Haslem later went to the University of Florida through an athletic scholarship. He played for the University team in 1998 under the coach, Billy Donovan. During his sophomore year, he helped his team to get through the NCAA Men’s Division I Basketball Championship game. Throughout his college career, he made a remarkable average of 13.7 points, and 6.7 rebounds in each game.

Career and Achievements

Haslem played for the Gators teams from 1998 to 2002 at the University of Florida in Gainesville, Florida, when he received an athletic scholarship.

Haslem averaged 13.7 points and 6.7 rebounds per game while playing for Florida. He was selected for the coaches’ all-Southeastern Conference (SEC) team four times: in 1999 and 2000, as a member of the third team, and in 2001 and 2002, as a member of the first team.

Haslem joined his local team, the Miami Heat, on August 6, 2003. He participated in the Rookie Challenge over All-Star weekend, was named to the NBA All-Rookie Second Team, and assisted the Heat in making it to the Eastern Conference Semifinals as a rookie.

In August 2005, Haslem re-signed with the Heat. He assisted the Heat in winning their first NBA Championship in June 2006 when they defeated the Dallas Mavericks 4-2 in the NBA Finals. In the decisive sixth game, Haslem finished with 17 points and 10 rebounds.
