Early Life

Anthony Kiedis was born on the 1st of November 1962 in Grand Rapids, Michigan. He is the son of John ‘Jack’ Kiedis and Margaret ‘Peggy’ Noble.

His parents, Peggy and Jack, married on July 2nd, 1960, after a whirlwind romance. However, the couple’s marriage did not last, and they eventually got divorced in 1966, when Anthony was just three years old.

Kiedis’ dad made most of his money selling drugs, although he also later ventured into acting. As a result of his father’s influence, Keidis began to use drugs at the young age of 11.

This would eventually lead to a long struggle with drugs by the time he was in his 20s. Despite this, father and son maintained a very close relationship.

After his parents’ divorce, Anthony lived in Grand Rapids, Michigan, with his mother.

He, however, got to occasionally visit his father in LA. He adored the times he spent with his father, who had become an actor and had legally his name changed to Blackie Dammett.

Dammett had a major impact on his son. Influenced by the bustling life his father introduced him to, Anthony expressed his desire to go and live with him permanently in LA.

His mother initially kicked against the idea but eventually gave in when she met her third husband, Steve Idema.

So in 1974, Keidis permanently made the move to LA and only occasionally visited his mother in Grand Rapids so that he could bond with his little sister.

Growing up in Los Angeles, Keidis was exposed to the city’s punk rock scene and became a fan of bands like the Sex Pistols and the Ramones. He attended Fairfax High School, where he made friends with Flea and Hillel Slovak, who later became his bandmates.

He also landed an acting role in 1978, using the stage name Cole Dammett.
